Katja is the artist behind Studio Pomkat. Based in the Netherlands. Her work involves abstract painting and illustration. Her paintings often depict topics such as spirituality, manifestation, folklore and mystical figures. Four-pointed stars are a reoccuring symbol in her work and brand.
Katja’s artistic research is driven by the process in which our eyes register colour and light.
“When I was small, I would constantly ask my mother whether she could also see the weirdly shaped particles floating before her eyes, she would always ask me what I was talking about. As an adult I found out that these are called ‘eye floaters’, tiny clumps of cells inside your eyeball that reflect a shadow onto your retina. Sometimes I just sit in my garden and squint my eyes at the sun. I find it oddly satisfying and comforting to see these particles.”
