Katja is the artist behind Studio Pomkat. Katja is a painter and illustrator based in the Netherlands with an academic background in visual design and Korean language and culture. Through nocturnal exploration of different astral planes, Katja often visualizes the dreamscapes she encounters into cosmic, organic and symmetrical shapes. She also draws inspiration from occultism, eye floaters and lava lamps.
“When I was small, I would constantly ask my mother whether she could also see the weirdly shaped particles floating before her eyes, she would always ask me what I was talking about. As an adult I found out that these are called ‘eye floaters’, tiny clumps of cells inside your eyeball that reflect a shadow onto your retina. Sometimes I just sit in my garden and squint my eyes at the sun. I find it oddly satisfying and comforting to see these particles.”
